I love that there’s a punk pop band called The Copyrights. And with such titles as “Grown Folks Business” and “Shit’s Fucked,” these Chicago lads do right by their name. “Crutches” is their brand spanking new single, and it rocks. Two minutes and some seconds of angsty buzzpop bliss.

I am glad to find Pariah on the Interwasteland. In the early 80′s when they started playing in Martinez, the Uptones were starting up a few freeway exits down in Berkeley. I saw a lot of hardcore bands at that time, and these guys were one of my faves. Check this song out, it’s great.

Here’s a classic piece of 80′s hardcore punk from Channel 3. CH3 was a bit more melodic than a lot of their contemporaries in that scene, but no less raging. I used to hear this on KALX. Always really liked this track, glad to find this and a lot of other 80′s punk classics from the awesome Posh Boy label, now up in the Intertubes.

I love this woman’s voice so much it makes me do crunches and take my vitamins. She rocks mieces to pieces. I just recently was reminded of The Peels, when I read Superfan’s post, of Robyn Miller’s new record under the name of Big Eagle. This only child epic is a fine taste of what Miller and her four piece band of rockerz sounded like. So much indie new wave punky anger bliss. From their eponymous debut CD. Water, I need water.

Titus Andronicus – “A More Perfect Union” mp3

Titus Andronicus are as much a carny of crazed vagabond poets as they are a hard hitting, dangerous sounding punk rock band. Pogues, Clash, Springsteen, Replacements, Pixies and Nirvana influences all prominent, but it’s almost silly to say that, since the voice that shines through this material is so blazingly fresh and sincere. The comparisons also end with their arrangements. This song for example, develops way past your standard three minute power-pop burst, into an epic piece stuffed with simultaneously dire and humorously clever narrative, and relentless musical invention that grows organically and never seems forced. One of my favorite newish groups is one Sonic Boom Six from Manchester. This is one of their earlier singles and it just kills. In fact I love it too much to speak intelligently about it. Just hit it and be knowing about them. CDs @ CD Universe.

The Mistake – “Fight To Lose”

What’s in a title? What’s in a band name? Look, if I see a song titled “Fight to Lose” by a band called The Mistake, from an album called “Fuck What You Heard,” my expectations are for some serious punk rock. So I download the song, notice it’s only exactly one minute long. Expectations higher – this has to be some hardcore a’la early 80′s, when far from being scouted by major record companies, punk bands were more likely to be investigated by the FBI. The track does not disappoint, it’s an exploding minute of ferocious, tight, tempo shifting, call and answer hook-stuffed, desperate hardfuckingcore from the suburban wastelands of Orange County.
